Create Your Style Portfolio

10 minutes — Draw!

Before you can TEACH your style, you need to UNDERSTAND your style.

Draw 5 quick pictures of ANYTHING you want:

  • They can be simple: stick figures, houses, animals, patterns
  • They can be silly: a pizza wearing a hat, a dancing tree
  • They can be serious: a portrait, a landscape, an object
  • Stick figures are TOTALLY FINE—this isn't art class!

The goal: Show the variety of things you like to draw AND what's consistent across all of them.

Don't worry about being "good at drawing." Pixel needs to learn YOUR style, whatever that is! Your unique style is valuable even if it's simple.

Suggested subjects (or choose your own):

  1. A person or character
  2. An animal or creature
  3. A building or house
  4. A tree or plant
  5. Something you love (pet, hobby, favorite thing)
2

Describe What You Love

5 minutes — Analysis

For each of your 5 drawings, write down what makes it special to YOU.

Look at your first drawing and ask yourself:

  • What colors did I choose and why?
  • Is it detailed or simple?
  • Does it have a mood or feeling?
  • What would I change if I drew it again?
  • What do I always include in my drawings?
  • Drawing 1 (stick figure playing soccer): "I love how the figure looks energetic and happy, I used bright colors for the shirt, I always add motion lines to show movement"
  • Drawing 2 (rainbow): "I always use bright, cheerful colors, I like my rainbows to have 8+ colors not just 7, I make them curved and playful not geometric"
  • Drawing 3 (dragon): "I like adding funny details like a dragon wearing sneakers, I draw dragons as friendly not scary, I give them expressions and personality"
  • Drawing 4 (tree): "I draw trees with swirly branches, not realistic ones, I add lots of leaves with circular shapes, I usually put a face in the trunk"
  • Drawing 5 (house): "I always add lots of windows because I like how light looks, I make houses feel cozy not grand, I add little details like flowers or cats in windows"
3

Find YOUR Pattern

3 minutes — Pattern Detective

Now look at all 5 drawings together. What's YOUR style signature?

Ask yourself:

  • Do I prefer bright colors or soft colors?
  • Do I add details or keep things simple?
  • Do I make things realistic or imaginative?
  • Do I add personality/emotions to objects?
  • Do I use curved lines or straight lines more?
  • Is my art energetic or calm?
  • Is it playful or serious?

Teach Pixel About Your Style

10 minutes — Training!

Now comes the fun part—teaching Pixel to create in YOUR style!

Look at your 5 drawings and your style notes. Create a "Style Description" that combines all your observations.

"Create art in my personal style: [colors you prefer], [simple or detailed], [mood/energy], [special details you always add]. My style is [3-5 descriptive words] and feels [emotional quality]. [Any specific things you avoid or always include]."

Example Style Description:

"Create art in my personal style: very bright rainbow colors (especially pink, orange, and electric blue), simple bold shapes with thick outlines, energetic and playful mood, always add unexpected funny details like animals wearing clothes or objects with faces. My style is colorful, joyful, silly, and energetic, and feels like a happy celebration. I avoid dark colors, realistic proportions, and serious subjects."

In your AI art platform:

  1. Click "Create" or "Generate"
  2. In the text box, type: "Create an art piece in this style: [paste your style description]. The subject is: [choose something fun—a dancing robot, a magical garden, a space cat, whatever excites you]"
  3. Click Generate
  4. Wait 10–30 seconds for Pixel to create something!
6

Give Feedback and Refine

10 minutes — Teaching

Look at what Pixel created. Does it match your style?

Time to be a teacher! Tell Pixel what worked and what didn't. Compare Pixel's creation to your 5 drawings side-by-side.

Refine your description based on what you learned:

Example Refined Description:

"Create playful, energetic art with VERY bright rainbow colors (no dark shades—think neon and pastel together). Use simple shapes with thick black outlines, like a coloring book style. Add unexpected funny details like a cactus wearing sunglasses, a cloud with a face, or a building doing a dance. Everything should feel joyful and imaginative, like a happy daydream, NOT realistic or serious. The mood is pure fun and celebration."

Try 2–3 versions until Pixel really understands your style. Each time, be specific about what to change. The more precise your description, the better Pixel can match it. Think of it like giving directions—"turn left" is vague, but "turn left at the red mailbox" is specific.

You've Succeeded When:

  • Pixel can generate art that matches your specific visual style
  • The mood and energy of Pixel's creations feel like YOUR art
  • You could show Pixel's work to someone who knows your art, and they'd say "That feels like something you'd make"
  • You understand what defines your unique artistic style better than before
  • You've experienced what it's like to be an AI trainer instead of just an AI user
  • You can articulate what makes your art uniquely YOURS

If Something Goes Wrong

"Pixel's creations don't look anything like my style."

You need to be MORE specific in your training. Instead of "colorful," say "bright primary colors with some neon accents." Instead of "simple," say "bold shapes with minimal details inside, thick black outlines." The more precise your description, the better Pixel can match it. Think of it like giving directions—"turn left" is vague, but "turn left at the red mailbox" is specific.

"I don't think I HAVE a style—my drawings are all different."

Look for the patterns underneath the differences. Maybe your style IS variety and experimentation! Or maybe you prefer certain subjects, or always add certain types of details, or consistently use certain colors even when drawing different things. Your style might be "eclectic and experimental"—that's valid! Teach Pixel to embrace that variety as your signature approach.

"Pixel keeps making everything too 'perfect' and professional-looking."

Teach Pixel that YOUR style includes imperfection! Say: "My style is intentionally rough/sketchy/hand-drawn looking. I don't want polished perfection. I want it to look like a human made it with love and personality, not a computer rendering. Add more irregularity, wonky lines, and character. Make it feel handmade."

"My drawings are too simple/bad to be a 'style.'"

Simple IS a style! "Bad" is just "different from realistic"—and that's actually MORE interesting! Some of the most famous artists (like Keith Haring or Jean-Michel Basquiat) used very simple, bold styles. Your simplicity might be exactly what makes your art unique and recognizable. Lean into it! Teach Pixel to embrace your bold simplicity.

Talk About It

For Kids

  • What was it like being the TEACHER instead of the student?
  • What surprised you about your own artistic style when you analyzed it?
  • How did teaching Pixel help you understand your own creative preferences better?
  • Do you think AI can ever truly "have" a style, or will it always be copying/mixing human styles?
  • If you kept training Pixel on your style, what would you create together?

For Parents

  • What did you notice about your child's self-awareness regarding their creative preferences?
  • How did the teaching role affect their confidence and authority?
  • Did they demonstrate critical thinking about what makes art personal vs. generic?
  • How might this skill transfer to other areas where they need to articulate their preferences or needs?
Pixel
"I can learn ANY style you teach me—but I need YOUR artistic vision to know what 'good' means for YOU!"
