Imagine Your Hero

5 minutes — Pure Imagination Time

Before you touch ANY technology, we're going to tap into your greatest superpower: imagination.

Close your eyes and picture your perfect AI-powered superhero. This hero represents the best of BOTH humans and AI working together.

About Their Power:

What's their main superpower?
How does AI help them use it?
What can they do that no solo hero could manage?

About Their Appearance:

What do they look like?
What makes them visually special?
Do they have any cool tech or magical elements?
What's their signature feature (the thing you'd recognize immediately)?

About Their Heart:

What makes them a HERO (not just powerful)?
Who do they help?
What problem do they solve?

Write one sentence describing your superhero:

This sentence becomes your North Star. Everything you create should serve THIS vision, not just "looking cool." You're establishing creative authority right now—YOU decide what matters.

Draw Your Vision

10 minutes — Traditional Creation

Grab your paper and whatever you like to draw with. Draw your superhero. Here's the beautiful truth: It doesn't matter if you can't draw.

Seriously. Stick figures? Perfect. Weird blob shapes? Excellent. Wonky proportions? Exactly what we need.

You're not creating finished art—you're capturing YOUR vision before AI gets involved.

Include these elements:

Their Costume/Outfit — What are they wearing? Special colors or patterns?
Their Special Features — Wings, gadgets, glowing effects, cool hair, unique accessories?
Their Expression — Happy? Determined? Mysterious? Kind? Brave?
Their AI Elements — Robot sidekick? Tech accessories? Holographic displays?
Color Notes — Write color words around your sketch ("bright blue cape," "golden armor," "purple energy glow")

Don't let your child skip this step! The hand-drawn version contains creativity that no AI can replicate. It establishes creative authority and gives them something meaningful to compare against AI output later.

This rough sketch is worth MORE than a perfect drawing because it's YOUR vision, unfiltered. Professional artists use rough sketches all the time—it's about capturing vision, not drawing skill.

Choose Your AI Art Platform

2 minutes — Platform Selection

On the toolkit page, you'll see a list of kid-safe AI art platforms.

We recommend starting with whichever one is marked "Easiest for Beginners." Click on that platform's button—it will open in a new window.

The toolkit updates regularly with the best current options. All platforms on the list are vetted for safety, so just pick the one that looks most fun to you!

Create Your AI Version

10 minutes — AI Collaboration

Now for the fun part! Let's teach AI to help bring your superhero to life.

Find the Create Button — Look for a big button that says "Create," "Generate," or "New Art." Click it!

Describe Your Superhero — You'll see a text box. Remember that one-sentence description from Step 1? Start there, but add more details. The more specific you are, the better AI can help!

Build a great description by layering details:

"A superhero with rainbow wings who can talk to animals using AI translation, wearing a blue and silver costume with a friendly smile and glowing eyes, surrounded by forest animals, in a bright colorful art style, looking brave and kind, with magical sparkles, has a small robot companion on shoulder, flying through clouds"

Tips for great descriptions:

Mention colors — "bright red cape," "silver armor," "purple energy"
Describe the mood — "friendly and brave," "mysterious and powerful," "playful and energetic"
Add specific details — "holding a glowing staff," "flying through clouds," "surrounded by books"
Reference your drawing — use what you drew as your guide

Click Generate and wait 10–30 seconds. Your superhero will appear on screen!

Don't love it? No problem! This is where you learn to be a creative director:

Click "Generate Again" for a different version using the same description
Edit your description and try again ("make the wings bigger," "brighter colors")
Try creating 2–3 versions to see different possibilities

Once you have a version you love, look for a "Download," "Save," or download arrow icon to save your creation.

This iteration process is how professionals work with AI. First draft is rarely perfect—refinement is where magic happens. Every time you adjust your description, you're learning to "speak AI."

The Comparison Moment

5 minutes — Critical Reflection

Now for the most important part! Lay your hand-drawn superhero and your AI-created superhero side by side.

This reflection step is where the deepest learning happens. By analyzing what AI did well and what it missed, your child practices critical evaluation of technology rather than passive acceptance—essential for digital citizenship.

1 minute — You Earned This

You just did something amazing!

You used human creativity AND AI capability to create something that didn't exist before. You didn't just "use an AI tool"—you DIRECTED an AI tool. You were the creative director. AI was your assistant.

This is what the whole book is about: learning to be the vision-holder while AI handles the execution.

Complete this sentence: "I am a ___ who uses AI to ___."

Write that sentence down and keep it. This is your identity for the rest of the book—your AI-amplified superpower.

You've Succeeded When:

You created a hand-drawn superhero that captures YOUR vision (messy is perfect!)
You successfully used an AI platform to generate a digital version
You gave AI clear, specific instructions and got results that matched your vision
You refined your description at least once to improve the output
You can identify what AI did well AND what it missed
You understand that YOU are the creative director, not the AI
You feel proud of BOTH versions—the human one and the collaborative one
You experienced firsthand that human imagination + AI execution = creative superpowers

If Something Goes Wrong

"The QR code won't scan"

"The AI platform won't load or says 'error'"

Check your internet connection. Try refreshing the page. Try a different browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox). Or choose a different platform from the toolkit list—they all work great, just differently!

"My AI superhero looks weird or nothing like I imagined"

Perfect! This is part of learning. AI needs clear, specific instructions. Your first description probably wasn't detailed enough (that's normal—everyone's first AI prompts are vague). Try describing your idea differently. Add more specific details. Use different words. Generate again. You're building the skill of "speaking AI" right now!

"The AI gave me something inappropriate or scary"

This shouldn't happen with our recommended kid-safe platforms, but if it does: close that image immediately, tell your parent, and try a different platform from our toolkit. Your parent can report it to the platform.

"My drawing is terrible and I'm embarrassed to compare it"

STOP RIGHT THERE. Your drawing is YOUR vision, and that makes it valuable. The whole point is that your messy drawing contains ideas and personality that AI can never create. Professional artists use rough sketches all the time—it's not about drawing skill, it's about capturing vision.

"The AI version is SO good that I feel like I didn't really create anything"

This is a really important feeling to talk about! AI executed the technical parts (rendering, colors, polish), but YOU provided the vision, the meaning, the personality, and the creative direction. Without you, AI would have created nothing. You're not "just using a tool"—you're directing a powerful creative assistant.
